Opus Conservation was commissioned by English Heritage to document, assess and conserve the Roman wall paintings in the Deep Room at Lullingstone Roman Villa. Dating to the second century AD, the fragile paintings were affected by moisture, salt activity and surface accretions. The project involved detailed documentation, scientific investigation and targeted conservation treatment to stabilise powdering plaster and paint, reduce surface accretions and improve the legibility of this rare Roman decorative scheme.
